5 Drinks You Should Never Give Your Dog
If you’re worried that your furry friend is becoming slightly bored with water, you might start to think about spicing up their water bowl with something a little different. Of course, there are many drinks your dog can enjoy, and some which are extremely beneficial for their health, but equally, there are several which are not healthy for dogs at all.
Here are 5 drinks you should avoid giving your dog, at all costs.
Milk
Cats love milk, so you might think that your dog could do with a boost of calcium. You have good intentions, but many dogs are intolerant of lactose, meaning they cannot digest the sugars in the milk very well. This causes many upsetting symptoms, such as vomiting, diarrhea, and gas.
Of course, your dog may not be lactose intolerant, but trying to find out could lead to unpleasant effects, so it’s perhaps best to avoid milk altogether.
Alcoholic Drinks
Firstly, you should never be attempting to get your dog mildly drunk, and secondly, alcohol is extremely toxic to a dog’s body.
Any type of alcohol can cause depression of the nervous system, problems with breathing, coma, vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, and even death in the worst-case scenarios.
Coffee
Whilst you might use your cup of java to get you out of bed in the morning, your dog should not be joining you in your caffeine habit. Dogs have a high sensitivity to caffeine, much higher than a human, so coffee in any real amount could turn out to be extremely serious for your dog.
The problem is that coffee contains methylxanthines, which is found in caffeine. This can cause heart palpitations, extreme thirst, seizures, tremors, hyperactivity, vomiting, diarrhea, and possibly death.
Tea
Just like coffee, tea also contains methylxanthines, and whilst you might think a bowl of tea in the morning would be nice for your dog to enjoy, you’re potentially putting them at risk. Very small doses may be fine, but anything more than that could be extremely problematic and even life-threatening.
Soda Drinks
There is caffeine in soda drinks too, believe it or not, so the same problem exists here too. Of course, everyone has accidentally spilled a little soda when opening a can and their dog has rushed over to lick it up, and generally, that’s nothing to worry about. However anything more than that could cause severe problems for your furry friend, so avoid at all costs.
These 5 beverages are must-avoids for your dog. Stick to water and other healthy, dog-friendly drinks instead.
