A Dog’s Diary: Charlie’s Reflection for the Year 2020
Dear Diary,
Now that the holidays are upon us, it’s a perfect time to reflect on all that I’m grateful for this year. I know that 2020 has been a challenge for many, with a deadly illness, a recession, and social isolation all themes of the past several months. But, despite this, I’ve still managed to find five things that I’m grateful for.
Since I’m a dog, I’m grateful for food and I thank my lucky stars every day that meat is a thing (I also thank my lucky stars that I’m not vegan!).
I’m also grateful for a warm bed to sleep in at night and a place to call my own; I know not all pets have this.
I’m grateful that I don’t need to worry about where my next meal is coming from. Even if I kind of think I’m starving to death and secretly fear the kitchen pantry will seal shut forever, I know this isn’t really true. Not all pets are so lucky.
I’m also grateful for all the time my owners have been home this year. I know the reasons for that weren’t ideal and that 2020 was a hard time to be a human. But it was an excellent year to be a dog.
Finally, I’m grateful that I have a person to love. They complete me and I know I make them happy too.
Talk to you later,
Charlie
