Gerald and Ginger Need Your Help
Whispering Willows, a senior dog sanctuary devoted to abandoned senior dogs, relies on the kindness of humans to help canines thrive. Right now, they need your help more than ever!
There are two dogs particularly in need of sponsorship: Gerald and Ginger.
Gerald is a ten-year-old Pitbull that came from the Memphis Animal Shelter in Tennessee. When he arrived, he was in heart failure (a result of heartworms) and placed in hospice.
Gerald has lived a life no dog deserves – one marred by neglect and abuse. His body is scared, flea-bitten, and emaciated. His teeth are also ground down to where they’re nearly non-existent and it’s suspected that he was used as a bait dog or a breeding dog.
Despite how he’s been treated, Gerald doesn’t hold a grudge – he’s never met a stranger and immediately adores everyone he comes into contact with. This, coupled with his perseverance against his health challenges, has given Gerald a chance – a home with a family, a warm bed, a bowl full of food, and loads of love are in sight!
In order to give him this chance, the shelter is asking for donations to put towards Gerald’s heartworm medication. You can help Gerald get the life he should have had all along!
Ginger is an eleven-year-old Boxer/Great Dane mix that came from the LTR K9 Resource in St. Louis, Missouri after she was found wandering the city streets. She has a bad back leg that she’s not presently able to put weight on, severe spondylosis of the spine, and she’s mostly blind. She is in need of much medical care….and even more love!
She is sweet and gentle and, like many seniors, always up for a nap! Like Gerald, she’s also heartworm positive, which is complicated by congestive heart failure. Since her rescue, she’s been on antibiotics, steroids, and pain meds.
Her advanced age makes it so she cannot undergo heartworm treatment. She is currently in hospice care (her foster mom is an emergency animal hospital vet tech) until space opens for her at the sanctuary.
