What Happens In A Usual Dog’s Day Out

Pawz World

Dear Diary,

My owner continues to stay home, which means every day is still the best day of my life. I jump out of bed at five or six or whenever the sun comes up (I never know what time it is – I’m not much of a “watch” dog). And then I intently stare at my owner until she takes me for a walk. I stare and stare until she makes eye contact. And then I use my big brown eyes to beg and plead. It works every time! (Okay, it works on occasion).

We usually go around the neighborhood, past houses, and trees, and plenty of bushes. I like to pee on everything but my owner never goes! I’m amazed at her ability to hold it. She even passes by fire hydrants without going – I mean, talk about self-discipline!

Lots of the dogs bark at me and I try to ignore them; I’m uncomfortable with conflict. But sometimes I see a squirrel and I can’t help but react. Today was one of those days!

He was up in a tree, staring at me. It was hard to tell exactly where he was looking since his eyes were so small and beady. But I felt them on me. It’s like they were saying, “I double-dog dare you to get me.”

I tried a few times. I jumped up as high as I could, but he was just out of reach. It’s too bad dogs can’t jump as high as cats. We’d eradicate the squirrel population if we could.

I barked at him too; I figured my manly “ruff” would let him know I meant business. But he just sat up on the branch, wagging his bushy tailback at me. Eventually, my owner pulled me down the sidewalk.

I don’t think it’s over though – this thing we have between us. I know where that squirrel lives. And maybe I’ll come back to settle the score once and for all. Or maybe I will just forget entirely and focus on my chew toy instead. That honesty sounds a bit more like me.

Talk to you soon,
Charlie
